FASTING

(Fasting, fasting) Fasting in the Bible generally means not eating and drinking during a certain time (Esther 4: 16). Rather than merely abstain from some certain foods.

I. Introduction
    Frequently we hear is whether fasting is important? so Christians should be fasting?

II. Fasting in the Bible, (PL/PB)

A. The Meaning,
     1. Hebrew tsum, tsom, and ' inna nafsyo, humble yourself before the Lord with fasting
     2. Greece nesteuo, nesteia and nestis. In ACTS 27: + 21.33 asitia and asitos are used.

B. When is fast,
     1. the Hebrew People fasted on Atonement (Im 16: 29, 31; 11: 27-32; NUM. 32: 7).
     2. after the exile, four other annual fasting is done (Zech. 8: 19 am)
     3. There is also a day of fasting intermittently, (for example David)
     4. the day of Atonement only annual Jewish fasts mentioned in PB (acts 27: 9).
     5. some of the Pharisees tight fasting Mondays and Thursdays (Lk 6: 12).
     6. other devout Jews, like Hana, often fasted (Lk 2: 38).
     7. Jesus preached a fast time trial in the desert. But that time may not choose to fast, because the first trials include that in a place as preparation for his Ministry, no available food (Matt. 4: 1-4). Bnd fast of Moses (Ex. 34: 28) and the fast of Elijah (1 Kings 19: 8) for 40 days
     8. Select the Messenger of the Gospel (inauguration of the servant of God) (ACTS 13: 1-2) and the elders, elders (ACTS 14: 23).

C. the nature of the fast,
     1. sometimes it is individual (2 Sam 12: 22) and sometimes together (judges 8: 26; Joel 1: 14; Esther 4: 15-17; ).
     2. Individual and together (offending Paul twice before (2 COR. 6; 5; 11: 27). But it is unclear whether this is voluntary fasting.) John's disciples and the Pharisees (Matthew 9: 2-3)

D. Why is fasting,
     1. Fasting is the outward evidence of grief (1 Sam. 31: 13; 2 Sam. 1: 12; 3: 35; NEH. 1: 4; Esther 4: 3; PS. 35: 13-14).
     2. repentance and Revelation (1: 6; 1 Sam7 Raj 21: 27; NEH. 9: 1-2; And 9: 3-4; yun 3: 5-8).
     3. This is the way of man humbles itself (Ezra 8: 21; Mzr 69: 11).
     4. fasting is sometimes described as a reward to yourself ditimpahkan.
     5. obtain guidance and help of God (Ex. 34: 28; Deut. 9: 9; 2 Sam 12: 16-23; 2Chr. 20:  3-4; Ezra 8; 21-23).
     6. figures of the Bible also has provided a model for us like Moses, etc.
     7. preparation of the Ministry, tussle (Jesus and Paul)
